Courtney (left in the photo) is the middle daughter of Dean Harland and Adrienne Wood. Phoebe (in the middle) and Millie (on the right) are also daughters of Dean and Adrienne. Courtney is 15 years old and was diagnosed in March 2019 with heart failure. She has (LVNC) Left Ventricular Non Compaction Cardiomyopathy. Her heart is very enlarged and is only working at between 12 - 15%. She has had a CRT ICD implanted ( Pacemaker/ defibrillator) this is helping her get back to some normality for a while. She is now on the Active Waiting list for a Heart Transplant. Courtney is in great spirits and taking all of this in her stride. She shows a huge amount of resilience to keep a brave face. She has won over many nurses and doctors with her smile and wonderful attitude. She is keeping everyone around her strong and positive.
Four months later, in July, her younger sister Phoebe, 14 years old, suffered a Cardiac Arrest and was air ambulanced to Starship to have a defibrillator implanted. Phoebe has been diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and will also be needing a Heart Transplant in the future. The girls’ older sister, Millie, 16 years old, has also been tested for this hereditary heart condition but at this stage is clear. The family truly appreciates all the support they have been given and continue to receive. The Transplant process will mean that the family will be in Auckland for at least 3-4 months as Courtney’s body tolerates the new heart and deals with the rejection process.
Dean Harland works for Harland Construction, and is one of Registered Master Builders members. His daughter is the beneficiary.
The money will be used to assist with the Heart transplant, and associated costs for the family while they are living in Auckland during the process
