Let's help the awesome principal of Arthur Street School fund the ongoing cost of her new scholarship for girls!
Dunedin, Otago
Arthur Street School held their end-of-year celebration this week here in Dunedin. Towards the end of prize-giving a long-running scholarship was awarded to two deserving boys to help them with their transition to Otago Boys High School next year.
Without diminishing the boys' achievement, I felt it was a pity that there wasn't some similar opportunity for the girl students at Arthur Street School. Especially in this modern age when we better recognise the imbalance in the advantages and opportunities that boys still have compared to girls in the world at large. We're making progress... but still have a long way to go!
While I was having these thoughts, Kim announced that she too had felt some regret at this absense during the 10 years that she has been princial of the school and that she is launching "The Kim Blackwood Scholarship for Girls" to finally do something about it.
I've started this page to raise money to help Kim fund this new scholarship, as a show of support and recognition for this great initiative!
In case others might feel the same way - here's your opportunity :)
My youngest son has attended Arthur Street School the past two years (he has one year to go). Kim Blackwood has been an excellent principal. I offered to help her raise money to cover the cost of offering her new scholarship.
Contribute to the cost of awarding the annual "Kim Blackwood Scholarship" to a deserving girl in her final year at Arthur Street School. The scholarship is worth $1,000 per year, which is paid to the recipient student.
