The Life-Changing Dexcom G6 for Ellie

$3,455 of $5,000 goal
Given by 28 generous donors in around 3 months

We are raising money to support Ellie to afford the DexComG6 device, and ensure a better quality of life for her and her daughter!

Waikanae, Wellington

Kia ora! My incredible friend, Ellie, has suffered from type 1 diabetes for over 18 years now. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that effects the production of insulin in the pancreas which is essential hormone that controls the glucose levels in your blood and helps to store food for energy. Currently, she needs to do regular blood glucose tests via finger pricks, inject regular doses of insulin, and constantly monitor food and carbohydrate/sugar intake daily.

She has a heart of gold and always puts others before herself, including her wild and beautiful three year old daughter, Isla. She is an amazing single mum who works incredibly hard at everything she does, and is currently starting up her own cakery business. Alongside all of this is the struggle to monitor and manage diabetes to ensure she doesn't end up back in hospital, vomiting or passing out.

There is hope though! In a recent trial of the Dexcom G6, her daily life was changed. The Dexcom is a continuous blood glucose monitor that has a tiny wire sensor that sits in the tissue just under the skin and takes a blood glucose reading as frequently as every 5 minutes and then transmits this data to either a smart device or an insulin pump. It also automatically controls your insulin to prevent you from having too low or too high blood sugars.

Unfortunately the DexComG6 is not funded and costs around $5000 a year or $100 per week, which is unaffordable for her. So we need your help!

Ellie is my best friend of over 20 years so I have watched her journey and struggle with type 1 diabetes for a long time.

Use of funds

We want to raise $5000 so that she can fund the use of the DexComG6 for a year. Whatever we raise will be used to fund the DexComG6 for as long as we can.

Almost half way in just a few days!   3 October 2022

You guys are amazing!! 🥰 I am continued to be blown away by peoples generosity and support over these past few days with helping me fundraise for the dexcom.

The biggest thank you to all those who have donated and to those who donated over the weekend, between the book sales and the give-a-little page we are now almost half way to our goal! That is almost 6 months worth of sensors, 6 more months where my struggle with managing my health will be made that much easier, and that is all thanks to you guys!

Isla and I are so grateful to be surrounded and supported by such amazing and kind people.

If you are able to and are comfortable with sharing the link to the give-a-little page or the Woke Budgeting website, it would be greatly appreciated x

Arohanui, Ellie and Isla 🧡
