Have you got a minute to spear……
Auckland
I want you to imagine that the beginning of life sets us up for the metaphoric landslide that becomes our demise.. consequences often beyond our control add rock after rock which at the end come tumbling down and smother our lives.
The first rocks high above Thora were those of family violence Instability Intergenerational dysfunction & Substance abuse, leading to mental health issues before she was able to change or control her circumstances. These are heavy and loose rocks which with every heavy rain event or slight tremor begin to tumble slowly down on top of Thora. The events that lead to her choosing a favourite bench to sleep on in Auckland’s CBD for the past 4 plus years where she passed away alone on 12 January 2023 are known by a few, the need to escape from the world while still having to live in it are a similar theme told by her peers.
Rejecting assistance from whanau and friends to navigate back into society Thora lived out her last days in her own world leaving a gaping wound in those who loved and wanted to care for her. Homelessness can be ignored and explained and rejected by those who do not understand it but for our family it is real
Her story is tragic and the last tribute that we can pay her is to give her a send off that reflects the value and love that the landslide destroyed, her siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins require assistance to ensure this happens, your donation will help us achieve this.
