The New Zealand Zakat fund harnesses New Zealand Zakat funds to empower and build strong New Zealand Muslim Communities.
Auckland
The Dar Al Quran Zakat Fund
Dar Al Quran Auckland has started a Zakat fund. Dar al Quran Auckland is the administrator of all Zakat collected through the Dar Al Quran Zakat Fund. By providing an avenue for New Zealand Muslims to pool their Zakat funds we can ensure that local Muslims in need have an avenue to seek assistance. We can also harness the collective impact of zakat to fulfil some of the strategic objectives of the Quranic injunctions like supporting new Muslims and the development of a cohort of New Zealand Muslim scholars.
We encourage you to consider giving your zakat locally this year.
The Dar Al Quran Zakat Fund Pledge:
1. To distribute all Zakat collected to Muslims eligible for zakat in need within New Zealand.
2. To work towards establishing distribution criteria for each of the eight prescribed Zakat streams to ensure each need is met within the community.
Testimonials
Recipient of zakat for debt category.
“It is with this great gratitude that we wish to thank the Amana Trust for the outstanding support they gave to a client of The Umma Trust.
The reason this client was recommended to you, out of our more than 100 clients receiving support was that the family were going through very tough times as their business closed down and both experiencing depression.
In addition the debt was causing issues between the parents as the debt made their communication hard. Therefore, it was saving their marriage as well as getting them out of depression. Also this is a family with great strengths who have two children at university so impact on them and their future was significant.
The client reported to me recently that her family are doing well, and her husband is planning to go and study business courses. The Umma Trust expresses its gratitude to the Amana Trust for achieving this great outcome and saving the future of this family.”

"The New Zealand Zakat Fund has helped me to learn my religion in a way that I would be unable to without it. As an adult and a new Muslim I have found immense benefit to be able to devote my time to learning the Quran without the time constraint and concern of full time work."

FAQ
Is it permissible to apply for a tax refund for zakat paid?
In the name of Allah the most gracious the most merciful,
When a tax refund is given it is considered a rebate of income tax you have paid on your income and does not impact the donor or donee of the charitable payment. In the case of zakat this means that the zakatable amount is not affected and therefore there is no jurisprudential preventative consideration for receiving a tax refund.
The policy rationale for tax deductible charitable donations is recognition of the contribution that charities make to the wellbeing of New Zealanders. Before a charity is granted charitable status this charitable purpose is first verified by the Charities Commission. This is also why there are different tax refund criteria for donations to registered charities whose beneficiaries are abroad.
Amana Trust Board, the parent organisation of the Dar Al Quran Zakat Fund is a registered charity and is established for the benefit of New Zealanders.
