The People's Inquiry 2020 - Te Uiuinga a ngā Tāngata

  • Seasons Greetings from the People's Inquiry

      10 December 2021

Wishing all our supporters a safe, healthy and happy Festive Season. The Report from the People's Inquiry Commissioners will be released early in 2022. They have a huge task of processing all the submissions, both oral and written, that have been received. The 3 days of online hearings in September confirmed that Aotearoa/NZ has a contamination crisis and there has to be profound systemic change and a paradigm shift in mindsets to change this. Many thanks for your support and we'll keep you posted on any updates.

    Mere Kirihimete.

Dear supporters of the People's Inquiry Te Uiuinga a Ngā Tāngata,

We hope this finds you safe and well during these pandemic times. Three days of the People's Inquiry hearings have now been completed September 2nd - 4th, and the organisers are very pleased that we planned to have the Hearings online. There was a great response from people giving powerful testimony from all around Aotearoa. You can read a fuller report here:

    https://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK2109/S00153/poison-concerns-presented-at-the-peoples-inquiry-hearings.htm

The next stage is for our four expert commissioners to process the huge amount of material submitted and we are hoping for a Preliminary Report in December.

In the meantime, we are still open for submissions if you have a story to tell or information to share. Also we have run this on the "smell of an oily rag" by a volunteer committee so if you can share the Givealittle link to support the ongoing work, we appreciate that.

    Ngā mihi mahana,

The Peoples Inquiry Committee - Asha, Hana, Hira, Stefa, Ursula. :)

The People's Inquiry welcomes your submissions until AUGUST 27th. We have gathered many submissions from across Aotearoa and from diverse communities. Plus we are thrilled to have 4 Commissioners of high calibre covering the expertise of Matauranga Maori, Environmental Law and Human Rights and Pesticide Science. The Inquiry is about giving voice to the unheard, to people who have been harmed by toxins and have important testimony to make. Also we welcome submissions from scientists, academics and experts who are working towards systemic changes in weed management, horticulture and agriculture and conservation - to shift the practices away from fossil-fuel dependent synthetic toxins towards more organic, regenerative, ecologic, holistic methods. Its time - change the paradigm!

This inquiry aims to hear the unheard stories about the impacts of toxic chemcals on people, wildlife and the environment. We are also keen to hear from scientists and experts with specialist knowledge to share. Also we are seeking innovative and creative solutions so we can move away from the poison paradigm.
