The South Canterbury Drama League - We need your help to upgrade our Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning System.
Timaru, Canterbury
The South Canterbury Drama League produces around eight shows per year and also offers workshops, performing arts competitions, holiday programs, and private hires at its 100-seat theatre, The Playhouse, which attracts around 10,000 visitors annually. Although the theatre was upgraded in 2015, some essential items were put on hold due to funding constraints.
Now, it's time to complete a crucial upgrade: installing a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system to ensure a comfortable experience for patrons and users of the theatre.
With an estimated cost of $300,000, and grants only covering part of the expense, the League needs your help to complete the project.
They are calling on supporters of theatre to help fund this project so that they can make The Playhouse a more enjoyable venue for everyone.
About us
The South Canterbury Drama League has a long history of producing quality theatre and is housed at it's pupose built theatre, The Playhouse in Timaru. We produce shows, workshops, holiday programmes, costume and venue hire and opportunties to volunteer.

HVAC UPDATE AND SOME GREAT NEWS!! 5 May 2025
A new era of comfort has dawned at your community theatre The Playhouse, with the successful installation of a state-of-the-art HVAC and AC system.
This achievement is the result of over a year of diligent planning and creative fundraising, coupled with the coordination and labor of a dedicated team of designers, installers and electricians. Thank you all so much.
The system had it's first outing during the production of Fame Jr. and received high praise breathing life and crisp, cool/warm air into every scene.

We have remaining funds!! This offers us the opportunity of enhancing our Lounge and Rehearsal Room with similar upgrades as well!!
So there is now just $5000 which stands between us and the completion of this next stage of the project. (the final stage will be completed sometime in the future which will be to install units in the Playspace. *We held Blackadder in this space last year)
