Education on how to keep children safe from sexual abuse.
Auckland
REOSA is an initiative, started by sisters Libby Taylor and Kate Hattaway, to create hope, dispel loneliness and encourage understanding by raising awareness about the negative ripple effects of sexual abuse in Aotearoa.
What you are about to read is unpleasant and needs to change: One in three girls may be sexually abused before the age of 16 and one in six boys may be sexually abused by adulthood. The ripple effects of this abuse are devastating for individuals, their families, friends and communities.
As a country, we can do something, and awareness and education are our best tools to combat this devastatingly prevalent issue and create a brighter future. REOSA, with support from HELP Auckland – a specialised service for survivors of sexual abuse – is publishing and distributing a handbook titled Keeping Our Tamariki Safe from Sexual Harm. This handbook is part of a nationwide initiative to ensure that communities throughout Aotearoa receive an accessible resource specifically created to educate and support parents, grandparents, caregivers and organisations to keep their children and young family members safe from sexual abuse. A digital version of this handbook is also available for free on REOSA’s website at https://www.reosa.co.nz/
REOSA is also working with author Michelle Derrig to distribute copies of her book ‘Only For Me’, a book that teaches children about their right to privacy and how to protect their own bodies in a gentle and age-appropriate way. This book is beautifully illustrated, and has been reviewed by Kids Book Review as "possibly the BEST BOOK on the topics of body protection and sexual abuse prevention for young children."
If you or anyone you know has any questions about purchasing either book, please email us at hello@reosa.co.nz and our support team will be happy to help!

The funds received will go to printing and distributing booklets that educate and support parents, grandparents and caregivers about how to keep children safe from sexual abuse.
REOSA Education and Support Give A Little Page 29 January 2023
Ngā mihi nui ki a koe
Huge gratitude to you
With your help, REOSA has raised $6570 towards printing and distributing books that raise awareness around sexual abuse in Aotearoa. These books help to reduce the ripple effects of sexual abuse for children and their families, as well as create awareness throughout communities.
We have had such positive feedback from those that have read the book, many saying that ‘Only For Me’ by Michelle Derrig is now a family favourite. Empowering our children to be in charge of their own bodies is so important, so keep up the great work and keep reading this book to your kids! The Keeping Our Tamariki Safe From Sexual Harm handbook is invaluable for parents and all caregivers, and is also available as a PDF download on our website.
Every dollar raised has made a difference, so we would like to thank each and every one of you for your support.
If anyone is wanting more books, please email hello@reosa.co.nz
Our Give A Little page will be closing on 1st February 2023. You can head over to our website and social media pages to keep up to date with REOSA.
