Our much loved cat (7 months) at the White House was hit by a car recently and needs $1500 for her treatment at Victory Vets.
Nelson / Tasman
Earlier this year we took on a kitten at the White House, Aphrodite (Affie for short). She has become a real hit at the house, welcoming and hanging out with members. Last week (mid June) she was hit by a car and sustained a broken pelvis and broken leg. Victory Vets in Nelson has been giving her awesome care and have substantially discounted the cost of her treatment.
But still this will cost $1500 and take 8 weeks.
Members are contributing towards this but need help to fund Affie's recovery. We don't feel it's ethical to divert money provided by our external funders to this cause, so would have to instigate some activity cuts later in the year to compensate.
Know that your contribution won't just help save our cat but will also help our members in their wellness and recovery journeys.
The White House is a peer led and run day activity centre for people with experience of mental illness. Based in Nelson city, it provides a place for members to gather together, take part in shared activities, cook and share food and provide support to one another.
The money raised will go to paying for Affie's treatment. If the money raised exceeds $1500 then this will be put towards members respite trips away (which is a new initiative at the house).
Affie at Paul and Marina's 27 June 2018
Affie is now staying with Paul and Marina while she recovers. Adam (from Victory Vets) is holding off operating on her hip to see if she heals enough on her own. In 4 weeks or so we'll see if she needs a followup op (Femoral head ostectomy). She's happy and pain free at the moment. Thanks to all for your support, we couldn't do this without you.
