The Galilee Project is arranging to complete and deliver "Galilee" a steel boat to Bishop Luciano Capelli for Gizo Diocese, Solomon Islands.
Northland
Bishop Capelli's Diocese covers over 100 islands and the boat will support the work of the church throughout these islands, transporting teachers and students to remote schools, bringing the sick to hospital, and freighting supplies for building projects.
Doug Buchan, a marine engineer of Paihia, has been undertaking work to prepare the Galilee on behalf of Bishop Capelli. It was purchased in Feb 2015, and work has been carried out at Opua in Northland in preparation for sailing up to the Solomon Islands.
To date a full refurbishment is near completion, including installation of updated navigational equipment, essential safety equipment and engine maintenance.
The boat is open for inspection at the port of Opua in Northland and groups may visit.
Call Doug Buchan on 0274737199.
