We aim to create a sustainable enterprise owned and operated by people with a disability.

Auckland

The Baking initiative: “The Good Stuff” - In cooperation with Hohepa Services Ltd. (Auckland).

"We are six enthusiastic and capable bakers with a learning disability. We are fortunate to have the guidance and support of experienced people who also support us in other areas of our lives.

Our focus is to produce our special brand of great tasting craft bread - which is entirely good for you. We also make muesli bars, pita bread, pizza bases, bagels, jams and pesto.

Our reputation and fan base is growing however our current location and bakery size limits our ability to meet supply and demand.

To increase production we ideally need a commercial kitchen that is closer to home. We live in Titirangi but travel to Ellerslie where we lease a very small shared baking space and equipment. We are unable to bake more than 50 loaves a day, given travel, preparation and baking time.

With a commercial kitchen in the Titirangi area, we believe we can bake more bread!

There are currently no shared commercial kitchens in the West Auckland area. The nearest one in Swanson is booked out and unavailable. Having our own commercial kitchen means we could grow and create a self-sustaining business. We would look to sub-lease and time-share for our own purpose and other baking initiatives in the local community. We might then create employment opportunities for others who, like us, have a learning disability.

All six of us are actively engaged in the planning process and are keen to move this forward. The baking, which started in 2015, is now an integral part of our lives. The products we bake are warmly appreciated and the encouragement we receive to continue to bake is hugely satisfying.

A Sustainable Social Enterprise is our Goal!

We aim to create a sustainable enterprise owned and operated by people with a disability. Our support network will ensure we will always have strength behind us. Our work will be purposeful and authentic. We will contribute to the community and create awareness and further opportunity for people in the community with a leaning disability.
