Lucy is running for The Neo Natal Trust, Auckland

$390 of $1,000 goal
Given by 13 generous donors in 8 weeks

The Neonatal Trust provides support to families of premature or sick full term babies as they make their journey through neonatal care.

Auckland

Providing emotional support (including ward visits, support just for Dads, and parent support groups beyond the neonatal unit), practical support (including helpful information) and financial assistance in a variety of forms (including food and petrol vouchers). All support tailored to help families get through what is usually a traumatic time.

Supporting the ongoing professional development of neonatal nurses.

The Neonatal Trust was originally established in Wellington in 1986 by two Wellington families with extremely premature babies, Since 2009, the Trust has evolved to become a nationwide network of support based around NZ's neonatal units. Collectively they engage with and support over 3,000 neonatal families each year.

Lucy O'Mahony's involvement (page creator)

I am running in the 5km Auckland Marathon on Sunday 29 October and the Skechers Womens 6km on Sunday 19 November.

I am a novice runner, the last time I ran was at School over 35yrs ago!

I'm involved with The Neo Natal Trust Auckland as our son, Henry, was born on 11 July 2010 at 29weeks 6 days in National Women's (Auckland Hospital) and spent 3months in NICU.

His birth weight was 1200g and during his time in NICU he underwent many procedures due to problems arising from respiratory distress syndrome, jaundice, hypertension, suspected necrotizing enterocolitis and suspected infection on days 0, 3 and 29. He also had hyponatraemia, anaemia and conjugated hyperbilirubinaemia.

Henry spent 82 days in NICU and was discharged on 1 October 2010.

Henry is now a happy and healthy 7 year old. Without the support and dedication of all the medical staff at Auckland NICU I know his outcome would have been very different.

I would like to give back to The Neonatal Trust in order for them to assist more families like mine on their journey.

Use of funds

The primary focus is to support parents by helping them in whatever way possible to get through what is a very stressful and traumatic time. This includes providing support, information, and other practical help.

The second aim of the Trust is to assist neonatal units in practical ways such as purchasing or contributing to the cost of equipment and funding for staff to attend neonatal educational seminars or other professional development.

To support neonatal-related medical research.

The Auckland Marathon - 5km  30 October 2017

Yesterday I ran my first ever 5km race with my very good friend, Gretchen. It was exciting and exhilarating to be part of such a great event. We started from Pt Erin at 10am and I am delighted that I ran the time I was hoping to run - 45mins. I can't say it was easy, I did walk a couple of times, but I am really, really pleased with the result. I am running a 6km race on 19 November so am back into training and hoping to do another good time for that race. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has donated, as I was running I was thinking or your very generous donation and I didn't want to let you down. I was also remembering Henry as a 1.2kg baby, in his incubator and those memories kept me going too. Much love Lucyxxx
