Please Support Pickles as he Recovers From Serious Injuries

  • 8th operation

      21 August 2018

Hi all, I,'ve just had my 8th operation since my accident.

This one was to remove the 4-5 plates & 20 odd screws in my lower left leg between knee & ankle, once the specialist got them out he then broke my lower leg to rotate it & then inserted a titanium rod into my lower leg. It was a 5hr operation and then 3hrs in recovery.

I spent 4 days in hospital and now I'm home recovering & I cannot return to work for 3 months while I heal.

So I still have a long way to go before I'm anywhere near back to normal, so I have plenty of physio and pool work to do in the coming months.

So I'm back to 80% from ACC which makes it very hard on myself & my family.

    Thank you.

  • Recovery update

      21 June 2018

Hi everyone, I would like to give you all a update on my recovery,to give you a little inside to what injuries I got from the accident, I ended up with a broken pelvis in 2 places, a broken left femur, my lower left leg between the knee & ankle was shattered in multiple places with some coming through my calf muscle where I've had to have a skin graft done.

I spent 2 days in ICU as I was on the critcial side of things at the start.

I had a total of 3 months in chch public hospital then 2 weeks at Burwood hospital for a rehab to get me home. I went home in the middle of May 2017 I was still unable to work and was very limited to what I was allowed to do, which was basically do my breakfast and lunch, then my days for 6 months were spent sleeping & sitting in my lazy boy with my leg up doing not a lot. It was a frustrating time for myself and my family, I could not do day to day things with my daughter which has been really hard on us. I finally went back to work part time in November 2017 slowly progressing back up to full time in february 2018, then my surgeon told me I was in for more operations, so 2 weeks ago on June 5th I had a rotation done, where they removed the titanium rod in my thigh to break my leg & rotate it and put a new rod in, then in a few months time I need to go back for another operation on my lower leg between the knee & ankle where they will remove all the pins n plates, break the leg to rotate and then put a titanium rod in my lower leg also, with a recovery time of around 7 months to a year. Im currently off work again for 6-8 wks at this stage.

I have put a few pictures up from the time I spent on hospital,to a recent photo a few weeks back. I would like to thank you all for your kind donations which will go towards my recovery and my on going treatment I'm going to need for quite some time yet, as ACC only cover partial payments. "Never Give Up" David Pickles 🤙
