House fire in St Clair left a family with nothing. Please help them get back on their feet.

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart.
In the early hours of Saturday morning (21 June 2025), a terrifying house tore through the home of my friend, Luke Chapman, and his family on Allandale Road in St Clair, Dunedin. The fire spread so quickly, they barely made it out in time. Three of them were taken to hospital with injuries, and although they’re thankfully alive, they’ve lost absolutely everything.
Their home is gone. All their clothes, furniture, keepsakes - everything up in smoke.
Right now, they’re trying to process the shock while figuring out how to start from scratch. It’s overwhelming. They’re safe, but they need help to get back on their feet.
If you’re able to help, even just a little, it would mean the world. I know they’d never ask for this themselves, as they're not the type to ask for help, but they’re always there for others. Now it’s our chance to return the favour.
Please donate if you can, and share this page with others who may want to help. Every bit truly counts.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.❤️
Luke is a good friend and someone who’s always there when you need him. He’s well known in Dunedin community through his work in film and TV, and as Head of Production at Allied Press, he’s supported so many local stories and people over the years.
How your support will help:
-Cover temporary accommodation and daily living costs
-Replace essential items like clothing, food, and toiletries
-Support their recovery and relocation as they begin to rebuild their lives
Thank you!! ♥️ 30 June 2025
Kia ora,
Apologies for my delayed response to the amazing and heartwarming efforts and donations from everyone given to Jasper, Juniper and I during this very challenging experience. I was in hospital for 7 days receiving treatment and recovering from the injuries caused by the fire.
Early on in the process I was informed that due to the damage caused by the fire, the house had to be demolished, and all our belongings were destroyed with it. Thankfully though as previously mentioned, all 5 humans escaped with our lives, which is most important. Our dog Haze also made it out alive. Unfortunately, our little cat Schmidgy who we had in our lives for 11 years died in the fire and we will miss her dearly.
The positive response from everyone really helped the healing process for me and also helped Jasper and Juni find something good in all this bad. The numerous calls, text messages and all other messages received kept me/us extremely busy and the distraction kept the negative thoughts away. I must thank the visitors I had who came in to see me and break up the days a little while in hospital.
There have been varied offers of support which the family are absolutely humbled by and are extremely grateful for and thank everyone who has contributed to our recovery.
Your contributions will help us regrow and so far we have managed to start with the essentials of clothing and the items for daily life.
Thank you everyone – Aroha nui
Love Jasper Juni and Luke Chapman
