Reunifying a terrified family trapped in Afghanistan with their Father who has Sponsored Refugee status in Canada.

International

For this reason I cannot provide any identifying details but feel free to contact me and discuss.

The husband & father is in Australian refugee detention while wife and children are hiding in Kabul after death threats from the Taliban.

After the Taliban murdered their grandfather and threatened to kill their father, he escaped by boat nine years ago. He has been incarcerated by Australia ever since. But there is hope. He was recently granted Sponsored Refugee Status to Vancouver. His dream is to safely reunite with his family in Canada, but they are trapped in Afghanistan at the most chaotic time in recent history.

Three of his daughters are in the middle of their university education when the Taliban took over a few weeks ago. They live with constant terror every day and night. His son and youngest daughter are in school.

They have lost their home, all their belongings and have no money. Their situation is dire, like many in Afghanistan, but this is a family I have known for over five years and have helped occasionally as others have. But now there is no one left to assist this mother and her children. With women now banned from working and without a husband, they all face starvation.

The eldest daughter speaks and writes fluent English and has been outspoken against terrorism and extremism, making her a political target.

The hope is, with the generosity of New Zealanders, we can raise enough money to fly them out of Afghanistan to a safer country while their father’s Canadian refugee papers are processed to completion. Every cent donated will go directly into the hands of this family, no bank fees, no taxes, no clipping the ticket by charity administrators.

Please help me to help this lovely family, intelligent, polite, and wonderful all-round human beings who will make very good citizens in their new home country. Thank you for generosity and any support you can offer.

I am a long term friend and supporter of this family. Father has been in refugee detention for 9 years and 5 months ago was awarded Canadian access. He is still awaiting the final steps but his family are now trapped in a high risk situation.

Use of funds

Purchasing four passports, visas, food, and basic needs until food Aid and commercial flights are resumed. Six people need to eat and survive in hiding. Purchasing their airfares to Canada or to a safe haven outside Afghanistan to ultimately be reunited.

New Update  31 January 2022

I joined forces with five women supporting other Afghanistan families (8 in total) and collectively they raised over $16,000. The money you donated $1,200 for this family has been sent at $800 a month for the mother and children to survive. You would have seen in the press, it is a harsh, bitter winter there with over 9 million people starving. Fortunately, with your help, this mother and her five children are able to buy basic food. The eldest daughter is learning touch typing so she can work once they manage to escape from Kabul. I have also helped her apply for scholarships to several universities but sadly there has been no response. Escaping from Afghanistan is dangerous and difficult. Our biggest worry is the potential collapse of the banking system - which would halt the survival money we send. Civil war is an ever present danger so we hold our breath and hope.

The father and husband in Australian Refugee detention camp is recovering from Malaria, and looks like he will be in the next group of men leaving the centre for his settlement in Canada. Fingers crossed, government officials provide no dates and very little information. But we do know the first lot of ten are being resettled in their new homes with community support.

Sadly - there is no real good news other than we keep supporting them in the hope of a positive change.

Many thanks again for your contribution and support of this family. It is a difficult situation in a tragic scenario.

Many thanks Sue for your generous donation. It all helps support this family under dire circumstances. We are slowly making progress but keep your fingers crossed that the Taliban can maintain peace. We just need the airport to open for aid and flights out of there. All the best and thanks again. Nicky

I am Australian, and I will never get over the shame of what successive governments have done to these innocent people who came in good faith asking for help. Sackcloth and ashes for evermore.

Many thanks and yes it is shameful that successive governments have ignored the plight of these innocent people. Locking them up with out any recourse smacks of a humanitarian blight on Australia's history.
