Family in Gaza is struggling to survive.

  • Yasser's recent update (Image: Yasser's camp)

    Dear Supporters,

We want to share an urgent update from Yasser, who is currently in Gaza. The situation around him is dire and dangerous. Recently, a tent belonging to their friends and neighbors in Khuza'a was bombed, resulting in one confirmed martyr and several injuries. Yasser and his children, Mohammed and Youssef, were just 100 meters away when the incident occurred. They were understandably frightened and had to hide near the tents for safety. Thankfully, after checking on them, Yasser reports that they are safe for now, despite the surrounding chaos.

Tragically, this is not the only crisis they are facing. The threat of new displacement looms over them due to escalating tensions in their area, compelling families to evacuate to preserve their lives. Yasser described this situation as a new shame upon an already strained community.

This update underscores the urgent need for our support. Your contributions have previously provided Yasser and his family with crucial resources, and as the situation continues to worsen, we urge you to consider donating again. Every little bit helps in providing safety and essentials for families in Gaza facing unimaginable challenges.

Thank you for standing with us in solidarity and compassion during this critical time. Together, we can make a difference.

The campaign's closing date has been extended to 24 Dec 2024 and a brief message of appreciation from Yasser to those who are still donating to the family:

"I am grateful to those friends who still use this link. The bad news is that our suffering will continue during the winter, and unfortunately there is no better end to the story".

  • Update on Yasser and his family

      24 September 2024

    Dear Supporters,

I want to share a heartbreaking update from Yasser, who continues to face unimaginable challenges in Gaza. In August, Yasser lost his cousin, a child no more than 12 years old, to the ongoing violence.

Earlier this month, Yasser informed us of a tragic massacre involving his extended family—the Abu Rida family. A mother and her six children were killed, deeply affecting Yasser and all who are connected. He expressed how the news caused his heart to sink, as he feared for the safety of his brother, father, and little brother, who had been in Khuza'a for two days.

To provide a closer look at Yasser's situation, I will soon upload a video depicting the harsh realities he and his family are facing.

Given the recent tragedies and the continued need for support, I will be extending the donation campaign for Yasser. This allows regular donors and anyone moved to give to continue making a difference in his family's life during these incredibly tough times.

Thank you for your unwavering support.

  • Harrowing experience by the Abu Rida family.

      28 June 2024

The Abu Rida family has been forced to move a couple of times since leaving their tents in Rafah due to the IOF's invasion. They pitched tents in the Al Mawasi area of Khan Younis, but on the 20th of June, they decided to return to their home that was miraculously still standing among the ruins of other homes out of a desire to feel its comfort.

On the 27th of June, they were attacked by artillery shells and shooting. Two members of their extended family were killed, a grandmother and her grandson (See attached video).

My friend Yasser and his family, however, miraculously survived the bombing but had to make a quick escape out of the area. Their family members are now split and living in different areas in Gaza.

Yasser updated me with the following:

"Unfortunately, we left our house under fire from Quadcopters as well as artillery shells. Two of my Abu Rida families were killed. I no longer have any desire to live there in the future. They were very scary times. The moment of death was near. Now I am in the village of Abasan. Nada (wife), the children, and I live with Nada’s sister in her tent. My father and brother went to my sister's house. My middle brother went to his wife's family home. We have separated. We left our tents and luggage at home and could not take anything with us. I now live on the street without shelter. This is my situation now. An unfortunate reality. I will start a new displacement journey."

  • Updates from Yasser

Due to the ground invasion in Rafah, Yasser had to move out of the red to an evacuation zone and was unable to communicate for a number of days because of an internet blackout. Two days ago, he finally had internet and was able to contact us despite some difficulties in the new settlement such as getting water. There have also been updates with regards to his mother currently with his sister in Egypt. She was suffering from spinal pain and had to have urgent treatment (please review her medical report that was uploaded weeks ago). Thankfully with your donations, she was able to undergo a successful surgery and is currently in recovery.

Here's more of what Yasser had to say:

I moved to Mawasi Khan Yunis. The place is new. We need time to get used to these new faces of people, but we hope that the end of this tragedy will be near. We will see what happens in the coming days as a result of what happened at the International Court of Justice. Our circumstances have worsened, my sister. We're all tired here.

  • As the situation in Rafah has deteriorated, survivability has become increasingly difficult.

Yasser has provided us with following updates:

    5 May:

The situation in Khan Yunis is less dangerous, but there are no instructions for the return of those who lost their lives there. Personal efforts after repairing the water lines there. There is very little aircraft movement there, unlike here in Rafah. The place has become more chaotic here among the citizens. Yesterday, a quarrel broke out here and three citizens were killed. Family quarrel.

A humanitarian disaster. There is no safety.

    7 May:

I could not leave my friend from Rafah. I loved going to my village or the village next to it. But yesterday our neighbor was martyred there in our village. Tonight was also very hot in eastern Khan Yunis and eastern Rafah. Also, after Hamas approved the deal and presented the terms of the new agreement, this war may end within the past two days. So we decided to stay here for a few more days, perhaps it would be the end.

  • Khan Younis home destruction

Yasser returned to the AbuRaida family home in Khan Younis discovered that it was trashed and damaged by the IOF after they retreated out of Khan Younis on Sunday. A picture of their home is attached. Yasser also provided us with an update:

"Unfortunately, returning home will not be good because there is no water or necessities for life here. Our house had a water well, but now it is out of order. We had solar energy and unfortunately it was stolen. We had a drinking water treatment plant, a small household plant that also broke down. Life is barren there. We would like to fix all these things. Because Israel destroyed all the municipal water tanks. My house is located near the eastern border. It is dangerous there, the entry and exit of the Israeli army will be rapid and rapid, as happened in Shifa"

Yasser has provided the following updates regarding his family:

"My mother was traveling with my sister for treatment in Egypt for my sister (cancer patient). My mother is now suffering from severe pain in her spine, and she needs surgery. This surgery cost $2500, along with medications and health care for at least three months, in order to regain her health. I am a broken person. How can I bear this suffering here, now that my mother is suffering while she is away from me?"

I have attached a medical document regarding his mother's condition and I have also offered to provide the funds we have been collecting for her treatment as she needs it urgently. I will share more updates regarding this soon.

  • My friend Yasser has updated me with the latest on the wellbeing of him and his family.

Yasser's has informed me of the following:

"Here the place is terrifying and frightening, and also full of corruption and chaos. A while ago a group of people fought together and unfortunately they used live bullets in this problem while it was near us. I was waiting for death bullets because of the closeness of the bullets. My mind can't think. I am inactive. I just want to end this suffering. We have become afraid of everything that surrounds us because there is no law here. Existing chaos. Those who control now are the corrupt. Resilience here is beginning to run out. Our souls and bodies can no longer bear it. Don't worry about me, I suffer from constant disorders and I can overcome them with time. But Maria and the mother are sick. I hope they get better soon. My pain is more psychological than physical."

  • The family appreciates the money donated for their ability to buy diapers.

These are the most needed and priciest commodity in the market, costing $50 for each bag. However, they would need more diapers and therefore, will require our help again.
