Tide Turned for Gary Livingstone after "finding" Auckland Scuba Dive on his journey to become a Qualified Diving Instructor

From an early age Gary was involved in many sports. Rugby, golf, archery, javelin, rugby league and surfing to name a few.

Gary started his apprenticeship in printing after leaving school but very quickly realised that being indoors was not for him. He spent several years as a greenkeeper and then turned to the building trade.

During these years water was always a huge part of his life.

The tide turned for him at the beginning of 2025 when, in Gary's own words, he was "lost" before he found Auckland Scuba Dive.

He quickly discovered that he had found his calling and kept asking himself why he hadn't done this many years before. Gary didn't have a lot of funds and the amount paid by Study Link does not cover the costs of the equipment needed to complete the 10 month long course, which ends with becoming a qualified Diving Instructor. And this will allow Gary to gain employment in the diving industry.

As his mum, I am so proud of what he is doing, the happiness he is experiencing and being a part of the new world that is opening up for him.
