I got to bring Titan home on Friday afternoon. I like to think he is happy to be home.. I’m definitely happy to have him home!!

He is a bit wobbly on his legs and I need to carry him up and down any stairs. But he can go on very short walks which he loves. Other than that he is just resting on his nice new memory foam bed. He does need watching to make sure he doesn’t do anything out of his capabilities.

He’s got a few medications to have at various times of the day, he doesn’t mind though because he gets to have fresh meat to help them go down. He also gets a heat pack on his hips twice a day.

After a few weeks he should be feeling pretty good and getting lose to being like new!

  • Scan & Surgery

      4 March 2021

I took Titan up to Palmy on Tuesday for his scan. The vets first checked him over and then explained all the different types of growth the mass could be. They also mentioned that if surgery was viable it would be possible that Wednesday could be the day, but this would depend on the results. While he was having the scan they also took another sample of the mass to determine whether it was cancerous or not since the test was inconclusive the first time around. On Tuesday afternoon I heard that he had woken up from being sedated but there were no results yet.

On Wednesday morning I got the call, good news first, the mass was not malignant. However I had a huge decision to make about surgery as it was going to be very difficult and very invasive because of the location. Firstly they couldn’t be sure what exactly they will find once they were in for example how attached the mass is to his rectal wall. Secondly they would have to break his pelvis. They couldn’t guarantee his quality of life afterwards. But equally the question was how long could he live without having the surgery done.

After a few conversations with family and friends, and lots of tears, I let the vet know to go ahead. It was a tough day trying not to think of all the what if’s and just hoping that it would go as smoothly as possible. Later in the afternoon I finally had the call to say the surgery had been done, the mass came out relatively easily with very minimal damage to the rectal wall. But we still needed to wait for him to wake up to asses whether there is any neurological damage. Titan has woken up, he is in a bit of pain which is to be expected, and I will get another update from the vet this morning.

Thanks to all of your extremely generous donations I was able to take the finance out of the hard decision I had to make. I felt like we just had to try this for Titan, he will have a tough recovery but at least he now has a chance! Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and kindness.
