Help Mark Law push back against Worksafe. This is in the interest of all New Zealanders

Bay of Plenty

Mark Law a former SAS soldier, set up a helicopter scenic flight operation at Whakatane flying people to White Island. Mark and his company Kahu Helicopters did so for many years without any incidents.

On the 9th of December 2019 just after 2PM White Island erupted. Many people (47) were visiting the Island. As a result many visitors lost lost their lives and 25 were badly injured.

Mark Law implemented his rescue plan and led 3 non air ambulance helicopters to White Island and recovered all survivors (not able to get on to a boat) back to Whakatane. Without Mark and Tim Barrow's helicopters and crew, the casualties would have been much greater.

Worksafe have charged Mark Law and his company with multiple Worksafe charges which they have said relate only to activities before the eruption. Let alone the fines which can be in excess of $ 1 million, the legal costs to defend the charges are beyond the ability of Mark Law to defend. Your help is requested to fund the defence of these Worksafe charges.

Supporting Mark Law's involvement (page creator)

I am assisting fundraising for Mark Law to defend charges laid against him by WorkSafe who claim he has an inadequate safety system, yet he successfully lead the rescue of 12 badly injured people from White Island.

Use of funds

To engage legal assistance and help pay any fines the court may impose. Your help is requested to fund the defence of these Worksafe charges. Whilst WorkSafe have stated in the media releases the charges relate to activities prior to the eruption, this is not clear and is yet to be clarified.

Mark has advised he is expecting the next steps in the Worksafe prosecution process to occur during June 2023.

The legal process is ponderous more so currently because of a backlog, a result of Covid postponing many cases. In the meantime, the legal costs continue to climb.

Mark Law is very grateful for your support and passes his thanks.

Supporting Mark Law

Anne, Mark and I thank you for your donation. The case is delayed due to WorkSafe only delivering a lot of documentation recently. This of course means legal costs continue to be incurred.
