Kia ora!

My name is Jaycee, I'm a third year student of the Bachelor of applied science (biodiversity management) degree (Unitec).

A group of us are fundraising for an up and coming credit bearing trip/experience to the wilds of Borneo in April 2018.

This experience will provide an opportunity to consider and study in-situ, the ecology and conservation of the critically endangered ecosystem of Borneo.

There is a lot of logging and human influenced degradation going on in the rainforest and i'm keen to get in there and learn on the front line.

Coming from a country like New Zealand that still has a lot to improve on in regards to our environment and going to a beautiful place like Borneo where unfortunately the native flora and fauna are at risk including the native people, i'll be using my knowledge, skills and environmental experience to truly embrace and add to the learning efforts.

Our group will be staying at a remote field station in Borneo in one of the largest remaining preserved pristine forests of the world in the Maliau basin. We will study tropical biodiversity and assess the effects of disturbance on native vegetation and animals. This includes field sampling of insect, butterfly, moth and bird communities in the wild and selectively-logged regenerating tropical forests.

The trip costs $4,200 which includes flights, food, accommodation and local travel for the two weeks.

Honestly, I was very hesitant to make this campaign as I'm very "anti" fundraising for myself! But, we'll see how it goes and any donation any size will be appreciated and put to good use.

I promise lots of updates, photos and blogs etc.

LASTLY! Please leave your name and an optional message, i'll be taking a banner/flag to Borneo with everyone's names who have supported in one way or another.

Thank you so much.
