A fundraiser to give hope to Mamitiana Orphanage in Madagascar
Wellington
Last year on a cultural tour to Madagascar with 12 New Zealanders and 2 Australians, we visited Mamitiana Orphanage which is home to 54 children aged 9 months to 18 years old. Some of the children are orphans, some are there because their families can't look after them, and others are sets of twins that have been abandoned by their parents due to a practice on the Southeast Coast of Madagascar that considers twins as a curse.
Hary who runs the orphanage is a widow with four children of her own with a big heart and generous spirit who can't just look at others' suffering. She started giving homes to children in 2012. We were inspired by the resilience of Hary and her dedication and obvious abundant love for the children.
They are building a second house to be used as a bedroom, a library and a Youth Centre where the children can learn some craft. The money has run out and they need 9500NZD. We have already raised 4250 NZD of that through a concert so all that's left to raise is 5250 NZD.
So if you would like to be part of a global community, give hope, and make a difference in the lives of these children then please donate what you can. Every dollar counts and money goes a long way.
All funds will go towards helping us finish a Youth Centre, dormitory, and library at Mamitiana Orphanage
