The village on Tongariki Island Vanuatu was destroyed by Cyclone Pam and needs rebuilding

Waikato

Tongariki Island Vanuatu is a small island with a population of 270 people. The local folk are friendly and welcoming to any visitors.

This small island was in the path of Cyclone Pam in March 2015 which saw houses, buildings and infra-structures destroyed. There are many pictures on this link to view the destruction. https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=tongariki+island+vanuatu+2015++after+storm&rlz=1C1WLXB_enNZ538NZ538&espv=2&biw=1366&bih=705&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMIiYy6qbTUyAIVZyCmCh3Dvgo5

As a small island their resources to rebuild their homes are very limited. There is a natural resource of trees on the island but no way for the local people to harvest the wood to build new homes.

This Givealittle page has been set up to raise some money to buy a Lucas Portable Sawmill and some chainsaws for the people so they can rebuild their homes.

Any donation would be welcome to help with this project, to enable the local people to rebuild their villages.

Real Accounting Online Ltd's involvement (page creator)

I am Donna Wheeler of Real Accounting Online Ltd, Hamilton, NZ. Recently a couple from Waikato who are clients of mine visited Vanuatu and were treated so well that felt like they wanted to try and help the local people of Tongariki Island rebuild their village and in the future also have timber to sell to buy other essential items for their community.

While on holiday in October 2015 one of them became seriously ill and had to return to NZ urgently. The people they encountered were all so geniune and helpful, friendly and thoughtful that they wanted to do something to help. They could see that a portable sawmill and some good used chainsaws would enable the community to support themselves better by utilising their local timber resource. Not only could they rebuild their village they had the opportunity to trade timber for food, tools and other essentials. They were touched by their kindness and now they would like to give a little back by raising some money to purchase and sawmill and chainsaws.

On behalf of my clients at their request I have set up this give a little page. Contributions will be held in our on behalf bank account until the end of the appeal or when there are sufficent funds to purchase a suitable Lucas portable sawmill and adequate chainsaws. Then item will be purchased and shipped to the island which our firm will manage. Shipping costs will also come from the give a little page.

Kind Regards

Donna Wheeler
