To raise funding for a defibrillator, cover its maintainance and aid St John and the Westpac chopper
Waikato
On the 18th of January while out jet skiing with family and friends at Anzac Bay, Waihi, I suffered a major heart attack.
I was without oxygen for 25 minutes and during this time if it were not for the aid and quick actions of friends, a top anesthatis from Waikato Hospital and the brave efforts of a young girl who sprinted to the coast guard in search of a defibrillator, I would not be here today.
From the continued care from the awesome team at St Johns and also the Westpac helicopter who ensured I made it to hospital quickly and safely, to the doctors, surgeons and nurses at Waikato Hospital who's treatment was second to none before, during and after my double bypass surgery. I would not be recovering as quickly as I am without them and appreciate each and everyone of those people. Now currently recovering for the next three months I am hoping to be feeling a 110% by the end of this time.
The cost of a defibrillator is around $4500 with an extra ongoing cost of $900 every 18 months for a new battery. I am hoping to raise this amount, plus anything extra to be donated to Westpac chopper and St Johns ambulance.
Primary facilitator of this cause
I am raising funds so that I can give back to those who have impacted in saving my life, and to also give back to the community in hopes that it will save many others lives.
There is one defibrillator at the Bowentown beach coast guard who are not always open year round. Fund raising for a defibrillator to live at the Bowentown holiday campground ensures the accessibility 24/7.
