Tony Brogden has won he Gold Medal for disabled shooters in the World Champs held in Italy 3 years out of 4

Auckland

This year as in past years the International Grand Prix for disabled shooters is being held in Milan, Italy.

Competitors from over 10 countries will be competing at the event, which will be live televised in Italy and many other European countries.

This year Tony is in real danger of not being able to defend his title as he simply does not have the necessary funds - in fact he still has a credit card debt from last year when he won the title for the 3rd time.

Tony is 57 years old and has been paralysed from the chest down for the last 37 years after breaking his back at T5 in a motor accident. He exists on a small living allowance from ACC.

Last year through lack of funds Tony travelled to Italy by himself to compete. I can’t even begin to imagine what that would be like for someone with Tony’s degree of disability. All other competitors had the support and assistance of at least one attendant. Some countries had entered teams of multiple competitors supported by a manager and coach. This year we hope to raise sufficient to send Tony with an attendant.

In New Zealand Tony is at the forefront of Disabled Clay Target Shooting and spends some of his time encouraging and coaching other disabled shooters.

In 2005 Tony won the Oceania Disabled Trap and Double Trap competition –The first and only disabled shooting championship held so far.

Shooting against able bodied shooters Tony was selected for the New Zealand Macintosh DTL team in 2007 and the New Zealand World open Team in 2008

In 2010 he turned his attention to the then newly established International Disabled Trap Competition (Unofficial world Championships) He Won the event in 2011, 2012 & 2014.

I, Paul, am acting on a voluntary basis as Tony's sponsorship coordinator. As a a passionate New Zealander I cant stand by and see a New Zealand champion relinquish his title through lack of funds to compete
