Raise money for Supporting Families by sponsoring me and my team to complete the Tough Mudder Challenge.
Taranaki
I have always been a fan of challenges and doing things that are a little bit out of the "norm". I came across the Tough Mudder challenge on the 3/11/2018 at Hampton Downs,NZ. The challenge is a 19km run involving 18-20 unique obstacles along the way, its extreme, muddy and will test my limits and you get a beer at the end so everyone's a winner. I thought that this would be a good thing to do with friends and work colleagues so have gathered a team of 10 Mudders to take on the challenge. It will take a lot of training and will be a test of will power, strength and stamina to complete the course. My plan was to take this on just for fun so I booked us up then I thought why not go through all the blood sweat and tears to raise awareness for mental health.
My wife suffers from bipolar and we have been through some challenging years to say the least. The stigma around mental illness is still as strong as ever and groups like Supporting Families help educate and support people in their time of crisis. Supporting Families Taranaki were there for me and my family when we were struggling to cope with understanding, finding resources and managing general day to day work loads while looking after 2 young boys and a very sick wife. They offer free support to families offering education, information, advocacy, workshops, support groups, face to face support and workforce development. They are such a valuable part of the community that me completing the Tough Mudder is my way of saying thank you.
Supporting Families were there to help us cope with a mental illness within the family. At a very difficult time they provided us invaluable support and information. We would like to help them out so they can continue to support other families in need.
All funds will be donated to Supporting Families Taranaki to use as they see fit.
