Norm is riding the length of NZ on his trusty metal steed raising funds for Wellington Food Rescue charity Kaibosh.
Wellington
The ever-ambitious Norm Antcliff is cycling the length of New Zealand, while raising dough for Wellington’s homegrown food rescue charity, Kaibosh.
Norm is anything but the norm. At 68 years old he is setting forth on behalf of anyone who had a dream but wondered whether the road might run out on them.
‘Actually, I was rather hoping to be defined by my bike, rather than my age,’ says Norm, his Santa Cruz pimped to within an inch of its life.
And fair enough, too. Age is – after all – just a number. Like 10 months in training, around 14 hours each week. Like riding 3000kms of the Tour in 30 days.
By crikey, Norm! What do you think your chances are?
‘Yeah, at times this seems like a pretty silly idea, but I’m going to give it my best shot,’ he says.
Good on you, feller, but couldn’t you just pack a little picnic and e-bike your way around the bays?
‘I can’t quite put into words why I’m doing this. But riding in aid of Kaibosh Food Rescue just gives me that extra focus. Extra depth.’
Established in 2008, Kaibosh links the food industry with community groups that support people in need ensuring that quality surplus food reaches those who are struggling rather than being needlessly discarded. This benefits both our community and our environment.
Working in Wellington and the Hutt Valley with the help of a dedicated team of more than 160 volunteers, Kaibosh rescues and sorts food 7 days a week. We deliver up to 20,000kg of quality surplus food each month to community groups that support people in need. This is the equivalent of 57,000 meals provided to those who need it most, as well as a 15,570kg reduction in carbon emissions.
Kaibosh provides this service at no cost to food donors or community groups.
Please Givealittle now to support Norm's quest.
Funds raised by Norm on Tour Aoteoroa 2018 will be used by Kaibosh to assist with funding the set-up costs of our new base which will be established in February and March.
