Tour De Plim 2023 - Supporting families #livingaspecialkindoflife
Porirua, Wellington
The Āhuru Mōwai Trust was established in 2016 by Paul "Softy" Latham and his wife Mandy.
Having raised a family with a child who had extra and special needs, they saw firsthand the lack of spaces and places where they could go as a family as their children grew. They wanted to create environments where families could come as they were and be accepted without judgement.
Since 2018, the Āhuru Mōwai Trust has advocated for and now provides up to 10 hours a week of activities for families from all over greater Wellington to leave their home, and gain confidence in making their worlds bigger not smaller.
"We are delighted to be chosen as the local charity partner for this years Tour De Plim, all funds raised are going towards the purchase of a custom trike, which will be used by children who have disabilities at a school in the Hutt Valley. Now the riders and their sponsors can see something tangible for their fundraising efforts" Paul Latham - Chairman
The purpose of the Āhuru Mōwai Trust is to create safe spaces and places that enrich the lives of families with children who have extra and special needs. Places where they find acceptance, respite and support for the whole family.
All funds raised from the Tour De Plim 2023 will be used to support families access opportunities and activities that they might otherwise be excluded from participating in. We have a particular project in mind which we will announce closer to the event.
Thank you 6 January 2024
At the end of Term 4 last year, we had the pleasure of delivering this recumbant trike to a student at Fraser Cres School in Upper Hutt to test it out. We are confident many more students will get the use of this trike for years to come. Thank you supporting this cause when you supported the Tour de Plim 23!
