Donate and help feed and befriend hungry people in Mouteka, New Zealand, with the Yorkshire Cakery and Tea Rooms in the New World carpark.
Motueka, Tasman
I met Deb when she set up the Yorkshire Bakery and Tea Rooms in the car park of the New World supermarket. At first glance it looks like the cutest cafe with the most glorious home-cooked-that-day cakes, available for a donation. No prices published - pay whatever donation you can! Believe me, the quality is worth it!
The real cafe fed "anyone on Christmas Day who didn't have a meal", no questions asked (ever). Then she started to feed over a hundred hungry people on "free" soup on a Tuesday evening, along with a little music and social connections for everyone who came lonely or lost. Deb is big on the nutrition from social contact as well as from food. Now she's offering free lunches instead of evening soup, just so that the elderly can come, as well as those who love her soup.
Deb's food is free to her guests, but not free to her or to her team of volunteers, which is where you come in. We're all noticing the price rises at the food tills. Deb can make even a few dollars go a very long way and if everyone gave a little, she would have enough. This page is for the collection of money, but if you have any spare food or other small items that would help a struggling individual or family, she has a share shelf outside the shop.
A local community connection
Ingredients for free soups, free meals and all that's required to make it available to needy people, especially elderly and children, in Motueka. This is the personal vision of a woman who has no affiliations beyond her heart and personal experience.
