Helping pay for unfunded treatment to prolong James' life.
Kerikeri, Northland
Recently my dear friend James (32) received the shocking news that he has very aggressive Stage 4 bowel and liver cancer and may have weeks to months to live. Since the diagnosis, the cancer has progressed rapidly, completely turning the lives of James and his wife Aurora upside down. James has already spent time in hospital due to his condition deteriorating. He was rushed through to oncology and was having his first round of chemo within the week. He is now at home and has already shown some improvement due to the chemo and hospice care but his life expectancy is still far too short.
The oncologist has advised there are unfunded treatments available which could extend his life by months, possibly years! Bevacizumab (Avastin) is an anti-angiogenic drug that reduces the cancers ability to produce blood vessels, and so hopefully starving the cancer.
The cost for the drug is capped at around $20,000 with an additional cost of roughly $1500 with each round of treatment. Any help towards paying for this drug as well as the significant financial burden associated with fighting cancer will be received with immense gratitude.
James and Aurora are generous, creative, and adventurous people. James has always had time for others and is a gentle and thoughtful soul, while Aurora has the most energy, enthusiasm, and kindness of anyone I know. They are a match made in heaven and suddenly face a very uncertain future.
James and Aurora are close and very dear friends of mine.
An unfunded cancer drug ($20,000) and drug administration (1500/ fortnight) as well as accommodation close to the hospital, transport costs and some private tests and scans ($5,000) that were necessary due to the urgency of the situation.
