Riding a mountainbike for 24 hours non stop - that is what is required at the World Endurance Champs in Italy 2017, I need your help please!
Bay of Plenty
I am Tristan Haycock, an 18 year old endurance mountain biker out of Tauranga. In February 2016 I undertook a huge personal challenge to race a Mountain Bike for 24 hours - non-stop, riding a distance of 364 kilometres with a climbing elevation of 8200 metres. The longest break I took was no more than 8 minutes. I went on to a convincing win in an international field including the outgoing World Champion, and to be crowned the 2016 Under 23 World Endurance Champion.
Throughout the next 6 months, my project is to train and set up a support network that will help me make history – Mission
To be the first Under 23 rider to defend a World Endurance Championship title in Italy 2017.
Not many 18 year olds can say they ride up to 500kms per week on training sessions which are often alone to reach their goals, but that is what I do, I am so motivated and determined to get to Italy in May 2017.
I am also a coach for the Tauranga Mountain Bike Youth Academy coaching 12 up and coming riders 2-3 times per week.
I have just finished Year 13 at Tauranga Boys College and will be commencing tertiary study in 2017.
Your support will ensure I can cover the cost of travel and accommodation in Italy.
I am a mountain bike rider who rides endurance races. The World Championships is for riding 24 hours 'solo' and nonstop including overnight doing laps approx 20 km long with the aim of doing the most laps the fastest for my age group. This requires extensive pre race training with nutrition and hydration a vitally important factor which is overseen by my coach and having a bike that is reliable and continually maintained by my mechanic. My role is to train in the months prior and race my bike to the best of my ability for 24 hours to win the World Champs for a 2nd time.
