Animal care, rescue, and rehabilitation of elephants and stray dogs.
Auckland
Truth be told it’s 2am right now and I cannot sleep!
All I can think about is the difference I will make for the better when I arrive in Thailand (December 2018). One of my many goals is to volunteer at animal rescue centres where I can give the animals a voice that can be heard. I have finally recieved the opportunity to achieve my goal that’s been a long 7 years in the making! I will be working with my favourite animal; the elephant! Alongside dogs and children. This experience will not only give me the chance to lend a helping hand, but also to gain life long skills, cultural values, and my purpose in life.
WHAT I WILL BE DOING:
• Chiang Mai Rescue Centre
Volunteer work will include working in the elephant kitchen - washing watermelons, cutting grass, unloading trucks and cleaning the enclosures, including poop scooping! Other tasks include planting trees, grass, building a dam and picking up more poop from free-roaming elephants. Volunteering also include going to a nearby school and work with kids, and go to a temple for cultural experience.
• Street Dog Rescue & Rehabilitation
Volunteer work will include cleaning enclosures and renovating the infrastructure that supports the strays. Other tasks include the distribution of food at checkpoints, monitoring and data recording of population numbers and collaring dogs to provide protection so they are seen and identified as ‘pets’.
