Both sets of toes amputated due to poor blood flow.

  • Gangrene and Infection in leg - off work with no income.

      20 November 2019

Mark is struggling in hospital right now. Tjere is gangrene and infection in his leg and the drs are still debating whether or not to amputate the leg under the knee. He has been in hospital for three weeks now and he will likely be in for another six to eight weeks. He has no income coming in and I am struggling with the pressure of being the only income earner whilst I have my own personal issues to deal with.

  • Surgeon changed their mind about amputating - but only until Wednesday

      11 November 2019

After being told that the foot was definitely coming off the surgeon said she won't do it today after all because although the foot hasn't gotten better it also hasn't gotten any worse. So she will now make a decision on Wednesday.

We are really struggling to keep our heads above water as it has now been five weeks since he received any income.

Please can someone help us. My wages as an ECE teacher only just covers rent and bus fares to work. We also have to try and service two plus debts that were sent to the debt collectors from when he had fourteen months off work when he had trouble with his other foot. 😢😥😓😭

  • Off it comes - tomorrow.

      10 November 2019

Sadly Mark yesterday received the news we have been dreading. What is left of his foot is starting to deteriorate due to lack of blood flow and the only way to fix it is to amputate just under his knee. It will require a recovery period of up to six months. We are both in a state of shock right now.

  • Hospital transfer so that healing and rehabilitation can begin

      7 November 2019

The surgeon this morning saw the wound for the first time since surgery. They are relatively happy with Marks progress but they now need to wean him off the really strong pain relief so that he can be transferred to Kenepuru hospital so that the healing can continue and the long road of rehabilitation can begin. He is likely going to be in hospital for another two to three weeks. He is unlikely to be back at work for another three months minimum.

  • Surgery is over and he has no toes left.

      4 November 2019

Mark had surgery on Saturday and his surgeon has removed all his toes. He now has no toes on either feet which is something that the hospital hasn't had to deal with before. What this means is that there is an unknown as to how he is going to be able to balance when he is walking around.

There are suggestions that once the surgery site has healed he will need physio and perhaps uaing a walker or two walking sticks to get around.

His living was as a driver for Driving Miss Daisy here in Wellington and it is unlikely now that he will be able to go back once he has healed.
