Urgent fire relief to help pregnant local worker Emily and her family rebuild their home in Queenstown.
Queenstown, Otago
22 August , a devastating house fire at Fernhill Queenstown suddenly struck our dear friend Emily and her family in Queenstown, leaving them without a home.
Emily is a dedicated phlebotomist serving our local community at the Queenstown Awanui lab. She lives with her husband, her mother-in-law, and their precious 18-month-old daughter. To make matters even more critical, Emily is currently pregnant with their second baby, due this coming November. In an instant, this hard-working young family lost their haven just months before welcoming their new little one.
While we are incredibly grateful that everyone is physically safe, they now face the immense challenge of rebuilding their lives from scratch—finding emergency shelter, securing baby essentials, and preparing a safe home for the newborn. They do have insurance, but the process is lengthy and will not cover all of the associated costs.
This fundraising initiative is organized with love and solidarity by the Queenstown Korean Community to support Emily’s family during their most vulnerable time.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards:
- Securing temporary accommodation and rental relief
- Essential daily supplies and clothing for the family and toddler
- Vital baby essentials for the upcoming arrival in November
Please join us in surrounding Emily, her husband, mother-in-law, and little ones with warmth and hope. Your generosity and kindness mean the world to them. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
I am organizing this relief fund as the President of the Queenstown Korean Association to support our local community member.
Funds will cover emergency temporary housing, essential clothing/groceries, and vital baby supplies for their newborn due in November.
Looking for somewhere to live 27 August 2026
The insurance assessor came to the house today.
The repairs are going to take a long time. There’s the investigation, then the damage report, then builder quotes, and only then does any actual work start. We’re being told months rather than weeks, and realistically it could be a lot longer than that.
So we’re not waiting any more. We’re looking for a rental in Queenstown now, two or three bedrooms, for however long this takes. If anyone knows of anything, or knows someone who might, please message us. That would help us more than anything right now.
We’re both working, we have references, and we’d look after the place.
Thank you to everyone who has given and shared. It’s what’s making this next step possible.
Emily and Sean
