Urgent Fire Relief for Emily & Her Growing Family in Queenstown

    Five weeks ago a fire went through our house. For a while we honestly didn't know where we'd end up. We were moving between friends' places with

    our one year old, living out of bags.

    Then all of you showed up. Friends, workmates, neighbours, and a lot of people we've never met, with messages, food, a bed to sleep in, and this

    page. We read every message that came through, and they meant a great deal. 🙏💕

    The good news: we move into our new place this weekend. Our own front door, our own kitchen, and a room for our daughter again. What you gave is going straight into setting the house up while ours is repaired.

    To whoever set this page up, and to everyone who gave, shared it, cooked, lent us something, or just checked in. Thank you. You made a hard few weeks a lot easier to get through.

  • Looking for somewhere to live

    The insurance assessor came to the house today.

    The repairs are going to take a long time. There’s the investigation, then the damage report, then builder quotes, and only then does any actual work start. We’re being told months rather than weeks, and realistically it could be a lot longer than that.

    So we’re not waiting any more. We’re looking for a rental in Queenstown now, two or three bedrooms, for however long this takes. If anyone knows of anything, or knows someone who might, please message us. That would help us more than anything right now.

    We’re both working, we have references, and we’d look after the place.

    A massive thank you to everyone who has shown such incredible kindness and generosity. Thanks to your warm support, we have already raised over $8,000 towards our original goal. Emily and her family are deeply moved and truly grateful for the love and solidarity from the community during this heartbreaking time.

    As they take their first steps toward recovering from the house fire, the reality of replacing essential everyday items, securing temporary accommodation, and rebuilding their lives means the financial burden remains very high.

    To provide Emily and her family with more meaningful, stable support throughout this recovery process, we have decided to increase our target.

    We set this page up yesterday not knowing what to expect. Eleven hours later there are over 130 of you.

    We’ve read every single message. Thank you doesn’t quite cover it.

    We’re meeting the insurance assessor tomorrow and will update you after that.
