URGENT FUNDS NEEDED FOR FLOOD RELIEF

$5,833 of $5,500 goal
Given by 40 generous donors in one day

Hawkes bay flood relief

Waiohiki, Hawke's Bay

The Hawke's Bay region has been hit with the worst weather event in a hundred years. The recent flood on the East Coast of the North Island has left an unprecedented amount of damage to infrastructure.

Waiohiki is a small community, my community, my marae (meeting house) is a small oasis (literally as you will see in the footage) for 110 people. In amoungst all that is happening, if you can find just even a little to help would be greatly appreciated.

All funds donated will be paid to the marae to serve the community as they see fit.

Aroha mai, aroha atu.

Love received, love returned.

Josephine and Melissa Kawhe (daughters of Edward Kawhe).

How will someone reach out to you to ask for assistance - what is the application process? Contactable by email (j.diaskawhe@gmail.com), phone is current offline, accesabilty to the location is currently unreliable, the Facebook page Waiohiki marae is the best place to post for any help needed. People can arrive directly at the Waiohiki marae and members will be actively in the community looking to assist.

Who will be deciding how to distribute the funds? Kath Hawaikarangi: Waiohiki marae account holder and Hinewai Ormsby Waiohiki marae chair.

What criteria will you use to distribute the funds? at the time of received payment the immediate needs of the community will need to be assessed, if the funds are sufficient and the supply chain is possible food and water distribution will be the first priority.

Fund distribution - thank you  30 June 2023

Kia ora,

The biggest thank you to everybody who donated.

This fund has really helped our whānau impact by this disaster. The Wharenui was untouched sitting on higher land, however the kohanga was lower and almost all whare were flood damaged. The silt and waste clean up has almost been complete and builders are starting to rebuild the whare that can be saved.

The give a little fund has been distributed to impacted whānau as a donation of $100 per whare alongside our hapū Trust that received funding for $1000 per whare. The Marae BOT decided that this was the fairest and efficient way to provide support given almost all whare were impacted. The distribution started 2 weeks ago and the Hapū Trust is administering the distribution of $1100 per whare into accounts.

This will help our whānau into recovery alongside the many other funds in the region.

Ngā mihi nui, a very huge thank you to all the support for the Waiohiki community and whānau.

Josephine
