Our page offers support for a young family in Kapiti facing a cancer diagnosis, providing financial aid and heartfelt encouragement.
Wellington, Kapiti Coast District
We continue to seek your support for a wonderful Kapiti family facing an incredibly tough journey. Earlier this year, Kobi was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive type of cancer. Despite undergoing significant treatment, including two major surgeries and four rounds of chemotherapy, recent scans have unfortunately revealed a relapse, with multiple tumours now present in his brain. More chemotherapy and likely neurosurgery are on the horizon.
This journey has been particularly challenging as it comes just a few years after the family lost Andrew, their beloved husband and father, to stage 4 melanoma. Kiri is now raising two teenage boys on her own and has been doing everything she can to support her son through his treatment, but the emotional and financial toll is overwhelming.
The treatments require regular travel between Waikanae, Wellington, and Christchurch, adding layers of stress and expense that are hard to manage alone. With Kiri unable to work while providing full-time care and support, basic necessities are difficult to afford, and the weight of everyday household expenses only adds to their burden.
They’ve struggled with the decision to go public and ask for assistance, as the feel the burden of asking for help so but the reality is that they cannot manage this journey without support. Every donation, no matter the size, helps to relieve some of the pressure and allows the family to focus on what matters most—being together and creating cherished memories.
Kiritea Morehu and her family live in our community and we are wanted to help them
Connected for life is a charity formed and run by parents of kids in New Zealand that have or have had cancer. We made Connected for life to help families understand how different charties and organisations can be of support during this time.
This will cover family expenses while they are providing full-time care for their son
Update on Kobi's Fight to Beat This 7 October 2024
Kobi has just completed round 3 of 5 cycles of chemotherapy treatment called TICE. This treatment involves collecting stem cells during the first 2 cycles and reintroducing them in the final 3 cycles. The process has been tough on his body, and unfortunately, he experienced a seizure, which led to another stay in the children's high dependency unit for the second time in a short period.
Kobi has undergone MRI scans between each cycle, and while we’re seeing some shrinkage with edema, there are no new metastases or growth, which is encouraging news. He’s had a week to recover and is now back on the CHOC ward, awaiting results over the next few days. We’re hopeful that he’ll be able to go home for a few days before starting the next round next week.
Thank you so much for following our journey and for all your support. You’ve given us the strength to make Kobi feel like royalty in a place that can sometimes feel unbearable.
Keep sending us your positive vibes.
Kiri
