Scots College Middle School Challenge 2024
Wellington
For the 2024 Middle School challenge, the MS leaders have chosen the Halberg Foundation for the Scots Olympics at the end of the year. This charity provides youth with disabilities access to sporting opportunities. Hadley Johnston, an Assembly and Events Leader, proposed this idea, and the other leaders agreed it was perfect for our challenge. Hadley shared this about the Halberg Foundation:
“Founded by Sir Murray Halberg in 1963, the Halberg Foundation aims to provide equal opportunities in sports and recreation. I nominated the Halberg Foundation because it promotes values like Participation and Inclusivity, which align with our challenge. The 2024 Olympics and Paralympics reminded us of the potential people have when given opportunities to play sports. These opportunities significantly impact many lives. As someone with Dyspraxia, a developmental coordination disorder, I understand the value this charity provides. It’s challenging to engage in sports with physical barriers and adversity. Being laughed at for something beyond your control can make you feel foolish. Many disabled kids in sports lack social belonging, leading them to quit. I urge you to support our middle school challenge to make a real difference.”
Scots College offers a vibrant learning environment, encouraging excellence in every facet of each child’s education. At Scots we create global citizens – who are equipped for life as balanced, compassionate, motivated and socially aware young people.
