Please help restore my Clubsport R8. My mates parents gifted this to me when he died. I want to take them on an anniversary run 1 year after
Wellington
Hi everyone. This fundraiser is for my 2001 VX Clubby R8 and there are ongoing updates on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/V8clubbyR8
This car means everything to me and a few other friends. Previously owned by one of my best mates David Duncan. We shared so many good times in this beauty. He first purchased it in 2003 but sadly he passed away from cancer on January 30th this year (2016). After speaking with friends and thinking about it, his parents gifted me the car and I am slowly bringing this beast back to show room condition in his honour. I hope to have this work completed to take his parents for the first year anniversary run in the car that their son cherished for so many years.
What is needed:
1 - The transmission needs to be replaced. There is also a major oil leak that can be fixed when the transmission is replaced and the cheapest I can get this done for is $2,500.
2 - The interior roof lining, drivers seat repair and coin holder lids, front and rear, will be $850
3 - Panel beating and repair. This has been quoted by 3 places at $3,650 average. The front bumper and passenger fender need replacing and a few more dents including a full respray.
4 - replacement diff
5 - check and replace bearings
6 - serious interior deep cleaning to remove years of built up dirt and smells.
If you know any mechanics, Holden car or parts dealers, friends in Australia that can access or supply parts, panel beaters and all round good guys that are willing to help them please direct them to this page or my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/V8clubbyR8/
What has been done so far:
Since I took ownership I have completed a lot of work and so far it has cost me $8,000 personally. The work I have completed so far is:
- Traction control and ABS system repaired
- Windscreen replaced but this cost more as there was rust found under the rubber which thankfully had not gone all the way through but needed to be fixed. Nice little surprise.
- central locking issues fixed
- dashboard illumination lights sorted
- transmission flush (but alas needs replacing)
- various light bulb replacements
- tensioner and idler bearings replaced
- rear boot light decal replaced
- starter motor replaced
- new battery
- bucked alloy rim repaired
- missing spare mag purchased
- spare key replacement
- replacement rear brake pads as the ones in there were missing the pins and springs and they were literally floating in there and clinking against the rotor
- window tints replaced all round
- cooling and heating system flushed.
So as you can see from my list, I am very serious about the cars restoration. But now I have hit a financial wall and have started selling my home electronics and furniture to pay for the work.
Always happy to muck in. Thanks so much.
Beautiful!
Many thanks to you and your family cuz!!
Cheers!!
