Vanuatu Cyclone Recovery

  • One week to go

      13 April 2015

    Kia ora everyone,

Once again, thank you for your support. It's incredible to see that with one week remaining for the fundraising, we are very close to hitting the five thousand dollar mark thanks to your generosity.

You'll be pleased to know that your contributions will be going directly to the Farm Support Association, the NGO Jill works with. They are really well placed in the community with great networks and processes to ensure that the money is wisely spent to enable farmers to get re-established. Jill's current focus is on chickens and crops - just imagine how many seeds $5000 will buy!

You might be interested in a couple of blog posts that Jill has written about her experiences - the photos are really worth looking at too to get a better understanding of the cyclone's impacts:

    Thanks again,

  • Update - A Week On

      22 March 2015

Kia ora everyone, thank you so much for your generous support. Jill is really touched by your willingness to contribute towards helping Vanuatu recover from Pam.

We've managed to talk with Jill a couple of times in the last week and she's relieved to report that her house came through okay, and her workplace was less damaged than anticipated. However, it is not so good on the farming front with crops being completely decimated, no water and shelter for stock and most of the agricultural infrastructure has been destroyed.

We've been working on figuring out how best to use your donations. At this stage it is likely that your contributions will be directed towards assisting the recovery for the farming community, through the FSA who are going to be working alongside the Department of Agriculture to do so. I'll keep you updated as this as we work out the needs and priorities of the community.

    Thanks once again,

    Nicole and Smidge
