Raising funds to help the resettlement of Ambae people in Vanuatu going through evacuation due to volcanic activity.
Canterbury
This page is created to help the people of Vanuatu from the island of Ambae who are currently evacuating their island due to serious volcanic activity.
The Volcano (Manaro) has become more active moving up to a level 4 which means it is very active and can have a massive eruption at any time. At the moment the government of Vanuatu is evacuating the people of Ambae to other islands in Vanuatu.
The plan is when I arrive at Port Vila on the 11th of November, I will contact the NDMO in Vanuatu and ask them for any needs that the people are in need of. Once I am provided with the information, I will then work closely with NDMO to use the funds and help the people directly. Due to a case in 2015 when we raised funds and handed over to the NDMO which was to help with Cyclone Pam relief, we did not receive a report of how the money was spent. Therefore, I would like to be in charge of the funds and make a report to then bring back or sent to the Canterbury newspaper to thank the people and let them know their money was used.
I come from Vanuatu and I am currently studying at the University of Canterbury. I feel the need to do something to help the people of my country at this unfortunate time. It is the least I could do. But with your help, it can be significant and will go a long way.
This funds will be raised specifically for the resettlement of the people in all or some of the relocation areas. This will go towards aids such as food, water, shelter and hygienic products.
