Support for Stephen & Tristan as they carry on without their Lovely Lisa

  • 25.7.16 - 12 weeks on Wednesday since we lost Lisa

      25 July 2016

I would like to thank all of you - 290 people - who kindly donated to this Givealittle page in support of the Dobsons, raising nearly $15000.

My beautiful friend Lisa was so touched, amazed and brought to tears by the kindness and generosity of friends, family and strangers.

We have decided to close the page off as Stephen feels it's time.

He and Tristan are doing ok. They are, of course still desperately missing their lovely girl but together they are getting through it. Day by day.

So, a final word from me is thank you from the bottom of my heart and remember there are still loads of very good and kind people around. "Pay it forward" as it will come back to you in one way or another.

    God bless

  • Beautiful farewell for Lisa - 11.5.16

      11 May 2016

It breaks my heart to write this update.

Last Wednesday 4.5.16 around 6pm, Lisa left this earth and went to be with her Lord.

She was at home in her bed wrapped in her husbands arms and their wedding song "Somewhere over the rainbow" was playing.

We had a lovely farewell service for her yesterday in Balclutha at which family members and friends honoured Lisa by speaking from their hearts. Stephen gave a beautiful heartfelt account of his life with his adored wife.

Tristan was a very good boy and was good at giving Daddy hugs.

This Givealittle page is still so important. We need to continue to support Stephen & Tristan as Stephen gave up his job a few weeks ago to allow him to spend all his time with Lisa.

Thankfully they are living with Stephens Aunty Marie and Uncle Lindsay who are a Godsend.

Please share this page, email it around, post it on any social media pages you have. I don't want this support to stop.

    Thank you so much

  • April 2016

      30 April 2016

Well, April has seen Lisa in Auckland hospital where she was taken to hospital by helicopter from Waiheke island where Stephen and her were having a wee getaway. This was sadly cut short by Lisa experiencing excruciating pain. She spent the whole day being tested and scanned. They got home a couple days later only to get another horrific phone call from their oncologist saying Lisa's liver was now nearly completely compromised. In 4 short weeks it had been ravaged by this evil disease.

They then went to Bannockburn for Anzac weekend but sadly this was cut short also by an infection resulting in an ambulance to Dunedin hospital where she spent the next 4 nights.

She has made it back to Balclutha hospital to make sure she doesn't have any more temperature spikes and God willing, she will get home tomorrow.

Please pray if you do, and please share this link to support this lovely family.

    Thank you so much

  • 12.4.16 - It's Dobbie Family Memory Trip time.

      12 April 2016

Human kindness has come to the fore this past week!

We had a visit to The Hits radio station this morning where Patrina & Callum announced the astounding news of the all expenses paid trip to Auckland plus a large donation to open a bank account for Tristan.

There have also been other generous offers of various services including a plaster casting of Lisa & Tristan holding hands.

Lisa is touching hearts & we can't help but respond. She is a sweet gracious young woman who deserves all this kindness.

  • Radio Star - 6 April 2016

      6 April 2016

Well, our gorgeous girl is now a true dinkum radio star.

Lisa spoke so incredibly beautifully on the morning show yesterday and then Stephen got on the mic and spoke so emotionally from the heart.

If you want to listen to this interview - search "Fundraising for Lisa" on Facebook and 'Like' the page and you will find it there.

Callum and P from The Hits Dunedin have got on board with the fundraising and creating memories efforts and are sending the Dobsons to Auckland so they can have a day at the zoo!!

Lisa & Dobbie are packing up their wee home tonight and relocating to Balclutha so they can rent their house out & therefore not have to worry about the mortgage. They are going to be living with an amazing Aunty & Uncle which will mean they have hands on support.

Let's keep the donations coming in. Please "public share" on your Facebook pages to get this around the country.

Thank you all so much for coming to the party in support of this special family.

    Delwyn. Xx

  • Special story in the NZ Womans Weekly 4.3.16

      4 April 2016

Written by the lovely & sympathetic Anastasia Hedge. A meaningful, poignant story about beautiful Lisa and her heartbreaking fight against cancer. And the fight continues - Lisa will give it all she's got and more. With the help, love and support from Dobbie, Tristan & extended family and friends Lisa is determined to extend that "far too short" prognosis and prove the oncologist wrong.

    HERES TO THAT!!

    GO GIRL!!!

    WE LOVE YOU!!!

  • 25.3.16. Good Friday. Lisas 34th Birthday

      25 March 2016
    Main image

Wanted to post a wee update today in regard to the amazing response we have had this week and because it's Lisas 34th birthday.

On behalf of Lisa, Stephen and Tristan, I would like to thank every kind person who has donated so far. They are completely overwhelmed and humbled.

They are in "Tristan's Bannockburn" this Easter weekend and will celebrate her birthday with a family day & a BBQ tonight and then off to the Warbirds over Wanaka on Sunday. If you see them about say G'day!

Wishing you all a happy blessed Easter.

  • "Devastation" - 22 March 2016

      22 March 2016

I have just had a phone call with Dobbie and there has been a heartbreaking development with Lisa's prognosis.

The cancer has progressed so rapidly that her oncologist has now given her 2-4 months to live.

She has a new growth behind her pancreas which could be the reason she has been in unbearable pain and having to be on continuous morphine. The kidney tumour has grown and she now has multiple tumours affecting about a quarter of her liver.

This prognosis is without chemotherapy. If she does choose to have chemo, it could extend her life another few weeks or nothing at all.

Now, here's where they have had another kick in the guts:

They asked the oncologist about vitamin C therapy and she did not recommend it as the vitamin C can crystalise in the kidneys. As Lisa only has one functioning kidney this doesn't seem to be a wise choice for her now. This was her hope. This was what kept her going - knowing that once chemo stopped being effective she could try this new, less difficult treatment.

Now, we need to quickly get this page total climbing as Stephen resigned from his job today so he can be with Lisa and Tristan and Lisa resigned a couple of weeks ago.

This young couple need our help - as a community, to make these last few months as easy as possible.

    Thank you everyone.

I will be changing the main story of this page also, to reflect the changes.

  • March 7 - "Changes"

      7 March 2016

Lisa saw her oncologist today. She got more bad news. She has a 3cm tumour in her liver now and the blood clots that are in both lungs are probably carrying tumour deposits. She's on slow release morphine tablets that will knock her about so she won't be at work for the next few days & finds it hard to look after her son. She is blessed to have an amazing husband in Dobbie, and wonderful supportive family members who help with Tristan.

Please share this GIVEALITTLE link in any forum that you can as we really need the amount to go up as she has just had to resign from her job.

Thanks so very much to all who have so generously donated.

Sure will Alarna. She certainly is. She needs lots of love and support right now, so thank you for your lovely message.

  • Feb 29 2016

      29 February 2016

Well my poor wee friend is having a night in hospital tonight after having to go to A&E this afternoon with dreadful chest pains.

After a CT scan discovered a blood clot in each lung she was put back on Clexane which should hopefully keep them under control. It's horrible having to inject herself every day in the tummy again though, as she had to do this for a few months for a clot near her kidney, which has since disappeared.

Just hope she can get home tomorrow.

  • Feb 2016 - pain has kicked in

      21 February 2016

Lisa has been having a lot of pain lately and has needed to take regular morphine.

She is struggling to have quality days at the moment as she is too sore and fatigued to keep up with her little boy. She's also struggling to come to terms with the fact that this dreadful disease is going to end her life prematurely.

She has another scan in April and will then get advice on the next treatment plan as to whether she can take a break from chemotherapy.

Please help this beautiful young Mum and wife be able to enjoy what time she has left.

  • 15 Jan 2016

      15 January 2016

    Lisa saw her oncologist today.

She told Lisa she doesn't want her to take the break from chemo just yet. She will do up to another 3 months of chemo then have a scan.

We will hope and pray for further shrinkage to the tumours.

Thank you so very much to all who have donated. Lisa, Stephen & I and all her family and friends are just overwhelmed by your generosity.

Please let's keep this going so when the time comes to take a break from the incredibly potent chemotherapy drugs, Lisa will be able to continue her fight with something a bit more natural!
