Raising funds for the auxiliary vehicle (ute) to get extra crew members to calls and to support the core appliance.
Auckland
The Waiatarua Volunteer Fire Brigade serves its local community in the central Waitakere Ranges and eastern foothills, and regularly backs up neighbouring Brigades in the West.
As with all volunteer brigades, Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) equips us well with excellent training, personal protective equipment, a fire appliance, plus the core firefighting and medical equipment for us to do our job.
However, all Brigades are different, and have different needs and risk profiles. A key risk to Waiatarua’s firefighters is traffic – at the majority of our incidents, the fire appliance is on relatively narrow, high speed roads with limited visibility.
To get extra crew members to an incident promptly and safely for traffic management, the Brigade uses an auxiliary vehicle. Our former vehicle was well past its “end of life” date, and a suitable replacement is being commissioned.
The Brigade has raised $45,000, but we are in desperate need of a further $15,000 to fund the balance.
