We got permission from SWDC to start work on the playground last week. We have raised enough funds to do the basics and we will get this work completed. We are still raising money for the water play area.

We are now fundraising for stage 2 of the project - in particular the Water play area - we need $50,000 for this area. The area will include a hand pump and a small stream with various pieces of water play equipment.

Martinborough Community Board have donated a drinking fountain to put alongside the area.

Stage 01 of the centre has been completed and we are now raising funds for our new Park and Playground.

The centre is open for business and is proving a popular place for community services and events.

At an Extraordinary Council meeting on the 18th January South Wairarapa District Council (SWDC) approved the project costs and loan arrangements for Stage One of the Waihinga Centre project. A price of $5.332million was approved for the project which includes a $200,000 contingency.

The next step will be to enter into a fixed price contract with Riggs Zschokke then construction can begin. The building and strengthening work is estimated to take a year and will be overseen by Dave Borman and the Waihinga Centre Construction group (a sub-committee of the Steering Group).
