Redeveloping Hamilton’s historic WWII hall into a community hub for craft, creativity, learning, and connection.
Waikato, Waikato District
Help us bring new life to a unique piece of Hamilton’s history.
The Waikato Guild of Woodworkers is transforming the former WWII-era hall at Flynn Park – one of the last remaining buildings of its kind in Australasia – into a vibrant Community Woodcraft and Arts Hub.
The Hub will provide a safe, inclusive, and creative space for people of all ages to learn, make, and connect. From woodturning, carving, and fine joinery to exhibitions and classes, it will celebrate craftsmanship while supporting wellbeing, confidence, and purpose – especially for retirees, youth, and community groups. The Hub will also be open for other community organisations to use, creating a shared space for creativity, connection, and collaboration.
Funds raised will help restore and preserve the hall’s historic character while upgrading it for modern use. This includes essential building work, workshop fit-out, machinery, accessibility improvements, and spaces to showcase local history and art.
The Guild also undertakes charitable projects such as making wig stands for the Cancer Society and wooden tulips for Parkinson’s NZ. Every donation helps preserve this historic site, build community connection, and pass on skills and stories for generations to come.
Renovations and fit-out - preserving the heritage of the building while creating an accessible workshop, exhibition, and learning space for the community.
