Waikino School lost our Whare Manu (our outdoor classroom space) in a fire overnight. We need your help to re-create what has been lost.
Waikato
On the weekend, Waikino School was host to many visitors, as part of the annual Lions Garden Ramble.
A highlight of the visit to Waikino School for many, was the delicious wood fired pizza, cooked onsite for our guests by amazing local chef Brad King, and home baking donated by our school community. All of this was served in Whare Manu - our special outdoor classroom space.
Unfortunately, overnight Whare Manu caught alight, and the space has incurred serious damage, rendering it unusable for our students.
It was not only the building structure and pizza oven that was damaged in the blaze - but many additional resources and equipment that our students use on a daily basis as part of their learning.
So much blood, sweat and tears has gone into making this space a wonderful place for our students to enjoy - and its a heart breaking loss to our community. However, we wont let it get us down... Waikino School will rebuild the space, so our students can once again, enjoy Whare Manu time in our own house of birds...
Waikino School is the heart of the Waikino Community - a special place that

Update - Wharemanu 9 December 2020
I just wanted to jump on and say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to help us get Whare Manu back on her feet via this give a little page. We have been totally humbled by the support we have received from both near and far, not only donations, but also in offers of assistance with the demo and rebuild, support of our fundraising efforts, kind words and messages of support, and assistance from other local schools and organisations too.
This was certainly not the finish to the year that we'd hoped for, however, the response we have recieved has been overwhelming. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you all. xx
We are now beginning to look forward to the recreation of Whare Manu - version 2. We have learnt a few things in the process, and will be rebuilding our pizza oven too, however this will be located well away from our main building this time.
We hope to have the area useable again in the first half of 2021, and look forward to sharing this with our community, once we are all back up and running.
Be sure to keep an eye out on our school facebook page for updates on the progress of our rebuild, and there may even be a call out for help, when it comes to time to stamp clay for the new pizza oven. Many feet make light work, and there really is no better feeling than having clay squishing up through your toes!
Awww thank you Rosalind. xx
Awww....thank you Brickwood whanau. xx
Thank you so much for your support. We really do appreciate it.
Thank you so much for your donation Liam. We have been overwhelmed by the level of support we have received from both near and far....it has been truely humbling. When you do move up this way, if you are ever int he Waikino area, please pop in. We'd love to show you around our school.
Thank you! xx
