Fundraising for an elderly couple who lost everything in a house fire.
Waiomu, Waikato
On Wednesday 4th June my dad, Dennis, and his wife Lesley lost their home and every possession in a huge house fire that has currently left them homeless and with only the clothes on their backs that night. Luckily Dennis was able to raise the alarm and get Lesley out the house before the blaze cost our families any more.
At age 74 they were enjoying their hard earned retirement. Neither of them have been in great health and Lesley has lost all the small conveniences that helped her to be more independent after having a stroke last year. Dad has also only just revovered from surgery for cancer and chemo. As you can imagine, these two have already been through a pretty tough time.
I know in times like these communities rally together to show their support and so many people have so kindly offered clothes, and household items etc. The offers are so generous but also very overwhelming for them both when they are currently of no permanent address so we thought this page is a place for people to do that in a more organised way that they can use as and when they are ready. Anything raised will be helpful with replacement costs and accomodation costs until any insurance is paid out.
Dennis’s daughter.
The money raised will be used to cover the day to day replacement costs of everything from clothes and toiletries to the conveniences they need while they are currently displaced. Helping them to be as comfortable as possible until any insurance is paid.
