FUNDRAISING FOR MY TRIKE

Hi everyone, my name if you don’t know it already, is Zack Lappin. I am 10 years old. When I was born I had a “stroke” meaning my right arm and leg don’t work the best, and I have a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy aka CP. There are many things usual 10 year old boys can do that become pretty tough for me - lots of toys, game consoles, bikes/trikes/scooters require two good hands and legs which can get very frustrating. One of the things I found recently, was that I no longer have the balance to ride a standard bike like everyone else, and so I stopped riding as all I kept doing was falling off (not so much fun). My little kid training wheels were too weak, and kept getting busted, and going off-road was impossible and to be honest it wasn’t the best fun to be the only 10 year old with trainer wheels either ?

I have now had the cool opportunity to hire a specialised trike over the summer months, but this soon has to go back to Parafed. This trike has been great, I have been able to clock up some amazing km’s much to everyone’s surprise (Dad brought me an odometer, and apparently I bike as much as I talk!?!). I have even managed to complete the individual triathlon at school (see the top photo), and join in with the class in bike safety week. To buy a trike like I need costs a LOT of money; Mum tells me it is $2800 roughly. Dad says this is pretty expensive, so now I have to fundraise a good portion of the funds to buy my very own trike.

At this stage the Halberg Sports Trust have given me a grant for $1000, which is valid for six months, so there is still a bit of money to raise within the next few months. I have decided for my first fundraising effort to do a sponsored walk. I thought 2-3 km’s would be pretty tough going as it takes me about 30 minutes to walk the 1 km to school. Mum and Dad and Nanna have other ideas and have said 10km is an even better idea (seems like a very long way to me, but I am told that I have to work hard to do this).

So on Sunday 10th April (day/date may change if weather is awful), I will set out on my 10km walk with my support crew (Niamh is even happier to be doing that haha), and am wondering if you would like to sponsor me to help me raise the funds to get my very own trike. Anyone that wants to come walking is obviously more than welcome too, it will be a dog friendly, accessible track ?

Attached is a sponsorship form, or alternatively you can let Mum or Dad know via phone/text/email/PM if you would like to sponsor me a dollar or so. (Note: for people that live a little far away, we can supply bank account or paypal details)

Thanks so much,

Zack S Lappin

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
