  • New Hope, new chapter for Brent

Brent remains an overcomer — a true athlete in body, mind, and spirit.

Recently, Brent made the heartfelt decision to put down his scissors and retire from hairdressing to focus fully on his recovery and wellbeing. This was not an easy decision, as hairdressing has been such a significant part of his life’s work and passion. For decades, Brent has poured his heart and artistry into his craft — shaping not only hair but also confidence, community, and countless friendships along the way.

We want to take this moment to acknowledge and celebrate his remarkable contribution to the hairdressing industry and to our team at Milton Andrews Hair Design. Brent’s creativity, professionalism, and unique flair have set a high standard of excellence and inspired so many within our salon and beyond. His warmth, good humour, and genuine care for others have made him a much-loved colleague and friend.

Brent is now undergoing a combination of alternative treatment and chemotherapy, with the goal of giving his body every possible chance to heal. This approach brings hope — but also significant cost, as some treatments are non-funded in New Zealand. Our goal remains to raise $65,000 to help cover these expenses and ensure Brent can continue to access the care he needs.

Ngā mihi nui and aroha to you all

  • Immunotherapy Referral - Standing with Brent

      10 September 2025

    Kia ora whānau and friends,

On behalf of Brent, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you who has given so generously towards his treatment journey.

Your aroha, encouragement, and generosity mean the world and are a source of real strength to him.

At 68 years young, Brent has proven time and again that he is an overcomer. An outstanding athlete, he has achieved many milestones throughout his life — and now faces perhaps his greatest challenge yet. True to who he is, Brent continues to embody positivity and Te Reo, bringing inspiration to all who know him.

We are grateful to share some encouraging news: Brent now has a referral for immunotherapy. This represents new hope and possibility in his fight. However, as this treatment is not funded in New Zealand, the cost is significant — $65,000.00.

Your support not only helps Brent access this treatment but also surrounds him with the knowledge that he is not walking this journey alone. Thank you for standing with him — every donation, every word of encouragement, and every prayer makes a real difference.

Together, let’s continue to back Brent as he tackles this next stage with courage and determination.

Ngā mihi nui, and aroha to you all.

Stu - a journeyman with Brent

  • I'm Brent-Murray-#IMTOA:#Tohe tonu,# NeverGiveUp#MyChallenge

      9 August 2025

    Affirmation for My Journey.

I am committed to fighting for my life with courage and hope. I choose to focus on living fully, embracing each moment, and finding strength in every challenge. I release fear of what may come and instead hold space for possibility, healing, and light.

My body is preparing for the road ahead- and so is my wairua. I meet this time with intention: training, adjusting, and staying present. Each choice I make -from movement to mindset- honours my wellbeing.

I welcome the support and expertise of my medical team, and I trust myself to walk this path with clarity, dignity, and calm strength. I may bend, but I will not break.

I carry with me the kaha of my parents Rangi and Jacqueline Grace, who now walk with the ancestors- their determination and love live on in me. From them, and from my whakapapa tuku iho, I draw tenacity, grit, and deep inner will.

Through karakia, I stay connected-to them, to te ao wairua, and to myself. My prayers are woven into every breath, every decision, every step forward. I am never alone.

This is not just a medical journey. It is a human one- spiritual, physical, emotional. Each step I take is a reflection of my mana and aroha for myself, my wh'anau wh'anui, and my friends.

I am strong. I am ready. I am alive.

Kia kaha. Kia m`aia. Kia manawanui.

    Brent- Murray

IMTOA- Tohe tonu/ I'm determined, I never give up!
