I am making a portable (poptop) work of art I call Want Mart and traveling it to the Dunedin Art and Revolution symposium 0ct. 2017.

Wellington

If you have ever wondered what the antithesis of capitalism is as art think no longer - Want Mart has arrived.

Want Mart is a hand made, aluminium poptop caravan converted into a work of art.

She needs a bit of TLC like a new soft woolen blanket sewn up for where the canvas used to be, some lino, a table, and reconnecting the gas lines.

Twenty plus years ago I came up with the idea of Want Mart and finally She has arrived I call her the retail therapist.

She is designed to sell nothing people's dreams, meditations, musing on how the world can deliver a much more healthy people, environment and future life.

People are asked to simply leave their thoughts either on paper, hand sewn, embroidered, or via Face Book.

I have been accepted to deliver a paper at Dunedin school of art's 'art and revolution' symposium - and to contribute to their concurrent exhibition and book. Want Mart will be central to my contribution.

Barry Thomas' involvement (page creator)

I am an artist and have been a film maker. I am reasonably well known as such in New Zealand and even a little overseas.esp for t a thing I did in 1978 called the Vacant lot of Cabbages.

I believe art and artists have had about a century of becoming much more active envisioning how the world can be a better place versus making pretty things for the elite.

I am making Want Mart to display and engage people to actively display how the world can improve. My role as artist is to kick start this process and facilitate the making of a venue, a place to muse and meditate and sell nothing - away from the maelstrom of the market forces...

By October the Want Mart will begin its journey out into the world collecting people's visions a something of a people's manifesto... a needifesto.
