Warren Churches is fighting stage 4 lung cancer. There are tablets that can prolong his life, unfortunately these are not funded by Pharmac.
Warkworth, Auckland
Warren Churches has always been there for everyone and anyone that needs him, whether that be family, friends, volunteering his time at the Bowls Club, the Warkworth A&P or the local community patrol, Warren has always given his time and his love freely to all who have needed it. He's a good bugger.
On the 25th of March 2022 at 67 years old, Warren received the worst news you can get. There was a mass the size of a feijoa in his left lung. Each further test since then has been worst case scenario coming true, its spread far and wide and seriously effecting his quality of life. Warren has stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to his ilia, hip, spine and brain. Warren is in the fight of his life. The good news is there is a life-line, but it comes at a huge price. Osimertinib tablets are over $360 each, they are unfortunately not funded by Pharmac. With these pills we could potentially buy him 2-3 years, maybe longer. Without them, he'll have maybe 6 months. The cost is $10800 every other month up to a ceiling of $80000 for a chance at more time. The choice is easy to make but difficult to fund.
That's why we started this page. We know a lot of you would love the chance to help Warren out like he has for so many, in his time of need, so here is a way to do just that. No amount is too big or small, we are grateful for any help you can give.
Warren is my Dad! He is too young and too good of a human to not help him buy some more time.
All of the funds will be spent on medication (Osimertinib) to help prolong Warren's life.
It's working! 23 June 2022
We met with the Oncologist on Monday and we received the good news that the medication is working. Nothing has gotten any bigger and some of the tumours have actually decreased in size. It's still early days, but we have so much to look forward to. Warren goes for his next CT scan in three months time and his progress will be reviewed again, so fingers crossed. We have received so much love and support from friends, relations, workmates and people we don't even know and it has been so humbling to have so many amazing people out there. Every good thought and well wish is so appreciated and of course your donations have made this fight so much easier for us to maintain. Between this Give-A-Little page, the awesome Auction and private donations we have reached over $40,000 which is truly amazing. Thank you so very much to each and everyone of you from the bottom of our hearts. Words cant express how grateful we feel. Lots of love to everyone, Warren, Genette, Kelly and Kristi.
